Is Broncos RB C.J. Anderson getting too fat?

Is Broncos running back C.J. Anderson overweight?

Anderson, who is still rehabbing from a surgery last October to have a meniscus repaired in his right knee, may have to lose a few pounds to get back into playing shape.

Last weekend, Anderson and retired NFL running back Marshawn Lynch attended a youth football camp hosted by 2017 draft prospect Joe Mixon. Here’s what Anderson looked like, courtesy of freelance high school sports journalist Jesus Cano:

Several Broncos fans reacted to Anderson’s appearance on Twitter.

In Anderson’s defense, his physical activity has likely been limited since his surgery, and he has plenty of time to get back in football shape.

Anderson told one fan on Twitter that he hasn’t run in four months.

Anderson also tweeted that he’s “upset” (presumably about the fat tweets), but he still believes in himself.

Anderson has a bit of a history of struggling with his weight.

During the summer of 2014, Anderson weighed 243 pounds.

Two years ago, former Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase told ESPN that the running back “got tired and was a little chubby” during the 2014 season. That year, Anderson “worn down quick” and Denver had to rotate running backs, according to Gase.

In 2015, the Denver Post reported that the Broncos asked Anderson to get his weight down from 226 pounds to 220 pounds. He weighed in at 221 pounds that season but was back up to 224 pounds again in 2016 (according to his NFL.com profile).

It’s unknown what Anderson weighs now, but he’ll have to weigh in when Broncos players report to the team’s facility on April 10. Judging from recent images, Denver will probably ask Anderson to lose weight again.

Before injuring his knee last season, Anderson rushed 110 times for 437 yards and four touchdowns in seven games.
