Car Show & Beyond

Roamin Angels Cruisin the Pines Car Show

My goal staging “Cruisin’ the Pines” has always been to insure the future of this Club. Obviously you’ve got to populate the show with content that interests the current car guys and gals. Equally important, however, is encouraging the kids to join us in our passions and become car guys and gals. Teen Car shows, R.C. Vehicles, safe biking, Gary Apple type projects, and hands on Riebes displays to name a few focuses help stimulate that interest and most importantly, the love of using our brains, heart and hands by working with them. Nothing builds pride like “I DID THAT!!!”

I got to spend some time at NU and Bear River recently watching kids do the above. Whether it was working on a suspension or welding a piece on a craft item, their eyes, confidence and smiles said they were dialed in and loved accomplishing something. I’ve only sat in on a few traditional classrooms lately but it’s rare you see anything close to enthusiasm like this. My 16 year old Grandson is another great example. He was down a few weeks ago to help with my Willys project. At that time he had just started his Summer job doing grunt work on big diesels, tractors and trucks. He’d make several trips back and forth to my tool box trying to find the right size socket to do something on the Jeep. We’ve all been there. This time on the recent visit? Mr. Professional! No hesitation…”Heh Grandpa, grab a #13 socket please”. It was right on every time. It was an eye opener. It brought a smile just like the NU and Bear River kids did.

It’s why we all do this Roamin Angel thing. It why this show that supports those efforts is so vital. It’s us and the other million Grandpas and Grandmas building confidence and building America’s future?
