Assault investigation allegedly involving Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott suspended

Dallas police have suspended an investigation into an assault at a nightclub allegedly involving Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott has made a lot of offseason news after leading the NFL in rushing last year.

The Dallas Police Department released a statement Wednesday afternoon that reads:

"The assault offense that occurred on July 16th at the Clutch Bar located at 2520 Cedar Springs Road has been suspended due to the lack of a complaint. Dallas detectives made several  attempts to contact the victim through various ways but at this time have not been able to make contact. To date no witnesses have come forward to provide any additional information about this incident."

A man suffered a broken nose in Sunday's altercation but initially told police he was too intoxicated to identify his attacker. ESPN and Dallas’ 105.3 The Fan reported that Elliott was involved in the disturbance, but he was not listed in initial reports filed by police. Elliott was not named as a suspect, nor was he — or anyone else — arrested or charged.

The suspension of this investigation is a break for Elliott as he prepares to report to training camp in Oxnard, Calif. this weekend. The NFL, however, still has an open investigation into domestic violence allegations against him and was also doing its own inquiry into the incident at the Dallas bar.
