48 hand-drawn, hand-painted portraits of every U.S. vice president with an octopus on his head. The art of Veeptopus has been featured in BuzzFeed, BoingBoing, i09 and Huffington Post. Now all of that wonderful, weird tentacle-bedecked art is available in one handsomely produced tome. But this is much more than an art book. Each portrait has weird facts on each veep. For instance, did you know that Charles G. Dawes was not only Calvin Coolidge's VP but he also won the Peace Prize AND wrote a #1 pop hit? Did you know that President Madison had not one but two vice presidents die under his watch? Did you know we once had a veep named Hannibal? Well, you learn this and a whole lot more in this book. Use this vice presidential trivia to impress co-workers, troll on the internet or paper over awkward moments during dates. A guaranteed conversation starter.

How customer reviews and ratings work
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2018A whimsical and beautifully done book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2017Every time you open the news, you experience outrage. Your friends say, "Comedy is tragedy plus time, right?" You're not alone. Jonathan Crow crafted a life-changing book for you.
You could continue on in your red-faced faxing to ResistBot or you could take a breath and examine how former Vice President Martin van Buren seems to feel about having an octopus on his head (just OK). I would strongly suggest clicking the 1-click button to buy this book if you are willing to brave the pages of a historical record of the Vice Presidents of the United States of America and a work of political art AND aren't afraid of tentacles.
(On a side note, you might consider visiting Crow's website's History/Politics Artwork if you have any love left for Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr after those monstrously expensive Broadway tickets you bought.)
Back to the book, flip through the pages and have a laugh. Feel better about your life because a) you do not have an octopus on your head (most likely); b) no one has drawn you with one on your head (most likely); and c) you are not the Vice President, which is the "most insignificant office" in the land (most likely). Think about that: whatever you are doing right now is probably way more significant than whatever the current veep is doing.
Ideal gift for the history nerd, politics aficionado, Congressional aide, or marine biologist or anyone who just needs a break from the onslaught of the Current Abnormal Situation.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2017This book is an absolute hoot--or, I guess, an absolute whatever-noise-an-octopus-makes. An amiable ramble through the highs and lows (mostly lows) of America's vice presidents, each one topped off with a chapeau of rubbery, grippy cephalopod--who is, in at least nine of every ten cases, the more intelligent of the two creatures depicted. Jonathan Crow's mini-essays bring the seamier side of the U.S. vice presidency vividly to life, and his watercolor and (fittingly) ink drawings are sublime, ridiculous...and oddly, touchingly beautiful. You need not be either a political junkie or an octopus enthusiast to enjoy the blend of history and absurdity on offer here, but I can think of literally no other way to get your fix of both. Kudos to Jonathan Crow for an elegant, magnificently weird flight of fancy. (Or swim of fancy. Whatever. Spend enough time with this book, and you'll start thinking this way too.) Great stuff.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2017This book is amazing! I was one of the many backers of this book, and I can truly say I was beyond happy with the outcome! If you like president history or even if you just like octopus this is the book for you. It's very informative and fun. Jonathan Crow puts just enough humor into this to make learning even small details about the beeps even more exciting. I'm going to school to be a high school history teacher and I'll definitely want this book in the classroom!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2017The Vice President is in some ways the saddest, so-close-but-no-cigar jobs out there. There's a great chance you will never become President, despite being first in line of succession. In this sense, placing a intellectually superior octopus on a Veep's head only underscores how ineffectual these people are, and Mr. Crow has brought out exactly that juxtaposition in beautifully rendered watercolors and pithy text that will fill you in on these not-so-great men's lives.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2017The epitome of a perfect absurd coffee table book. It looks so regal to the casual viewer and becomes utterly hilarious once they pick it up and look at it! This book is full of comedic gems and great illustrations you'll never see anywhere else. Would absolutely recommend!
