Why We Overeat and How To Correct It:

Overeating, or consuming more food than the body needs for energy, can occur for various negative reasons. Here are five common ones:

#1 Emotional Eating: Many people turn to food to cope with emotions such as stress, anxiety, sadness, or boredom. They use food as a source of comfort or distraction, even when they're not physically hungry.

#2 Mindless Eating: Eating without paying attention to hunger cues or the amount of food consumed can lead to overeating. Mindless eating often occurs when people eat in front of the TV, while working, or while engaging in other activities, which can result in consuming more calories than necessary.

#3 External Cues: Environmental factors such as the sight or smell of food, social gatherings, advertising, and food availability can trigger overeating even when individuals are not hungry. These external cues can stimulate appetite and lead to eating beyond the body's actual needs.

#4 Restrictive Dieting: Following overly restrictive diets or strict food rules can sometimes backfire, leading to episodes of overeating or binge eating. When certain foods are labeled as "off-limits" or forbidden, individuals may develop a preoccupation with those foods and ultimately overeat when they're available.

#5 Habitual Patterns: Overeating can become a habitual behavior, especially if individuals are accustomed to large portion sizes or frequent snacking. Eating out of habit rather than genuine hunger can lead to consuming excess calories over time.

These negative reasons for overeating often contribute to weight gain and can have adverse effects on physical and emotional well-being. Developing mindfulness around eating habits, addressing emotional triggers, and fostering a balanced approach to food can help mitigate overeating tendencies.

Three effective strategies to help overcome overeating:

#1 Mindful Eating: Practicing mindful eating involves paying full attention to the eating experience, including the sensations of hunger and fullness, the taste and texture of food, and the emotions and thoughts associated with eating. By slowing down and being present during meals, individuals can become more aware of their body's hunger and satiety signals, which can help prevent overeating. Some tips for mindful eating include:

*Eating slowly and savoring each bite.

*Paying attention to physical hunger cues before and during meals.

*Recognizing the difference between physical hunger and emotional or environmental triggers for eating.

*Minimizing distractions while eating, such as television or electronic devices.

*Listening to the body's signals of fullness and stopping eating when satisfied, even if there's food left on the plate.

#2 Portion Control: Monitoring portion sizes can be an effective strategy for preventing overeating. Portion control involves being mindful of serving sizes and choosing appropriate portions ba

    Do You Really Need Motivation?

In this episode of The Overweight Mind, I discuss all things motivation. What is motivation (the two types) ~ Is it really? Is it necessary for success? How can you create it when it’s gone?

What is Motivation and Do We Really Need It

Motivation refers to the driving force behind our actions, desires, and behaviors. It is the internal or external factor that stimulates us to pursue a particular goal, task, or outcome. Motivation is what energizes us, directs our behavior, and sustains our efforts over time.

There are two main types of motivation:

Intrinsic motivation: This type of motivation comes from within oneself. It involves engaging in an activity because it is inherently rewarding, enjoyable, or fulfilling. Examples of intrinsic motivation include pursuing a hobby because it brings personal satisfaction or studying a subject out of genuine interest.

Extrinsic motivation: Extrinsic motivation, on the other hand, comes from external factors such as rewards, punishments, or social pressures. It involves engaging in an activity to earn a reward or avoid a negative consequence. Examples of extrinsic motivation include studying to earn good grades, working to receive a paycheck, or exercising to win a competition.

Motivation can be influenced by various factors, including:

    *Personal goals and values

    *Expectations of success or failure

    *Past experiences and achievements

    *Social and cultural norms

    *Environmental factors

*Emotional states, such as excitement, fear, or enthusiasm

Why we lose motivation and how to get it back:

Understanding motivation is essential for achieving personal and professional goals, as it plays a crucial role in determining our persistence, effort, and overall performance in pursuing desired outcomes.

Losing motivation can happen for various reasons, including burnout, lack of clear goals, feeling overwhelmed, or experiencing setbacks.

5 steps to help you regain motivation:

#1 Reflect on your goals ~ Why did you start?: Take some time to reassess your short-term and long-term goals. Are they still meaningful to you? Are they achievable? Adjust your goals to align with your current circumstances and aspirations if necessary.

#2 Break tasks into smaller steps ~ Rocks vs Boulder: Feeling overwhelmed can lead to a loss of motivation. Break down your tasks into smaller, manageable steps. This makes them feel less daunting and allows you to make progress incrementally, which can boost your motivation as you see yourself moving forward.

#3 Find inspiration ~ manufacture urgency: Seek out sources of inspiration that resonate with you. This could be reading books, watching motivational videos, listening to podcasts, or talking to mentors or peers who inspire you. Surround yourself with positivity and motivation to reignite your own enthusiasm.

#4 Create a supportive environment. Who’s influencing you? Evaluate your environment and identify any factors that may be contributing to yo

This book, which consists of 365 Daily Motivational messages for Coaches, Athletes, and Leaders, is available on Amazon now.

Ever since I started coaching, my mission has been to make a difference in people’s lives.

As a strength coach, I spend more time with the players year-round than the other coaches do. Therefore, I’ve always given the players a message of the day after every lift or run. I’ve collected the most powerful and impactful ones here.

These messages cover many topics. They discuss perspective, toughness, resilience, setbacks, belief, frustration, inspiration, determination, gratitude, humility, work ethic, and leadership, to name a few.

As a coach, I truly believe that you're wasting your platform if you’re not pouring your heart into your players. As a leader, if you don’t develop the people around you, they won’t be following you for long.

I’ll tell you now what I tell my players: Not every message will hit you the same. But one might change your life.

This book aims to provide a timeless guide for coaches, athletes, and leaders everywhere with a message of the day for an entire year.

Is Your Mindset Making You Fat? 9 Mindset Hacks For Weight Loss

In this episode of The Overweight Mind, Neuroplasticity and it’s link to successful and lasting Weight Loss.

Neuroplasticity refers to the lifelong capacity of the brain to change and rewire itself in response to the stimulation of learning and experience.

The wiring together of brain cells makes the new behavior feel routine and easier over time. It requires about 10,000 repetitions — translating to a minimum of three months of practice — to develop a new neural pathway and master a new pattern of behavior. This timeframe can fluctuate as each brain is unique.

New science in relation to people being motivated to make changes shows the following data:

People who were part of an accountability group ~ coaching ~ or mentorship program had better results and stayed with the changes longer than those who tried on their own.

The idea that people have to be motivated to start is completely false. Most people who made dietary changes started before they were motivated and built momentum and motivation as they had success.

9 Steps to Retrain Your Brain and Create New Habits That Lead to Sustained Weight Loss

#1 Be Aware of Your Thoughts ~ Thoughts Become Things

#2 Turn Negatives into Positives ~ Reframing ~ challenges = opportunities

#3 Understand What Derails You ~ Pattern Recognition and Reassignment

#4 Create a Personal Mantra ~ Your Mind Works On Frequency ~ The words you speak = you identity

#5 Practice Daily Gratitude ~ Gratitude Grounds You And Minimizes Emotional Decisions ~ you don’t fall into a positive mindset, but you can for sure fall into a negative one ~ you have to MOVE into positivity

#6 Reciprocity Ripple (Boomerang Effect) ~ You Get What You Give ~ You see the world as you are ~ the lens of perspective

    #7 Connection to Community

#8 Enhance Your Environment ~ Your Inputs Dictate Your Outcomes

#9 Powerful Daily Routine ~ Discipline : Process : Repeat

He is absolutely right it starts in the brain, the foods these days have made us addicts to chemicals. The fast food knows the salt, sugar. and fat are killing us and they don’t care. We need to take our health into our own hands, or we will get sick.
