Wow, I really liked this book. When my sister suggested that I read and review it, I wasn't sure what it would be like. I researched the author and he seemed legit and it was being published by Sourcebooks, which is a publisher that I've come to greatly respect over the years I've been reviewing books (since 2007). I decided to find a review copy and read. I was not disappointed.

Most people who say they want to improve themselves never do anything about it. They wait for some outside force to magically make them a better person. I won't happen. Author Robert Glazer gives examples and concrete activities to undertake to improve, or rather, elevate ones self.
He talks about four elements of the self : spiritual, intellectual, physical, and emotional. He emphasises efforts in all four areas at the same time for a balanced growth.

It is clear to me that Mr. Glazer lives what he talks about. This is well thought out and supported by outside research from a wide variety of resources. He provides a bibliography for those who want to do further readings, and you will if you are planning to follow his activities. Though this is a slim volume, it contains a wealth of information and much that you will find yourself pondering. For example: what are your core values and your goals in life. Not only your career goals, but your personal goals. Do your goals match up with your values.

Now that I have read an e version, I am going to purchase a paper copy as I know I'll be coming back to this book again and again as I work my way through the suggested activities. One of my favourite is making a list of the 30 most significant people in my life. Each day of the month your are to pick one and have a meaningful contact with them. A phone call, email or letter, your choice.

Special thanks to my sister for recommending this book. She has been on Mr. Glazer's mailing list and read his Friday Forward message for quite some time.

I received and advanced reader copy of this book from Edelweiss and Sourcebooks in exchange for an honest review.

I had heard about this publication and have eagerly anticipated its release. Such a compelling read! I have been reading Robert Glazer's Friday Forward weekly blog for months and this book is a clear and natural extension of those blogs. The only difference, so far, is that the book is even more of a motivator than the blogs...which I didn't think was possible. For any new business owner, seasoned business owner, happy employee/team member, or anyone else striving to offer quality and be known as a quality person, this is the book that will be the standard in developing one's full capacity in all areas of one's life.

This book has less substance than I expected. It is roughly 100 pages.

Here is the message from the book:
Determine your purpose in life, work...
Wake up 15 minutes earlier than you do now
Sleep 8 hours a night
Eat right
Don't get distracted by email and online activities
Exercise
Keep a journal
Sign up for classes or yoga or something
Limit any stress in your life
Develop 10, 5, 3, 1 year plans and if anything you are asked to do doesn't align with those refrain from doing them.

The author reached out to me regarding my review and I appreciate that and it says a lot about his values and integrity.

To the point, written in an engaging style, Elevate is about the importance and ways of elevating our human potential on four axes: physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual. It focuses on building good foundations and finding an inner compass, leadership and finally capacity building in ourselves and those in our communities, be it family, friends or work mates. Beyond personal capacity, it delves into the importance of resilience, influence and relationships. It is grounded in reality and calls to action, and provides excellent pointers for further reading and engagement. Recommended.

The author has a rare gift for writing in a clear and relatable manner. I've enjoyed his Friday Forwards emails since their debut, and in this book he ties together and builds on themes initially explored in those emails. The book has inspiring stories and practical advice that is often applicable in both the personal and professional spheres. I highly recommend!

I've subscribed to Robert's weekly newsletter 'Friday Forward' for about a year and a half now and not once has it been undeserving of its spot in my inbox. To say I was a little excited when I heard he was coming out with a book would be an understatement.

Like in his newsletter, in Elevate, Rob does a great job of taking evidence-based ideas and relating them to everyday life. Through stories and actionable advice, he explores the concept of 'capacity building', the strengthening of one's ability to perform. Capacity building isn't working endlessly harder (and ending up burned out), but instead closer to how an athlete trains. Measured, deliberate, and focused on the right areas. Written in an approachable style, it focuses more on results than explaining extensive research which makes for a quick and easy read.

This book was given to the whole baseball team by Garretts Mom, Rochelle. It actually had really good information and thoughts in it it just took me about eight months to finish it, but once I committed to it it literally only took a few hours on beaver Island. Well worth the read and perhaps will inspire me to pick up a couple of their choices or recommendations from him thought provoking and an alignment with atomic habits book and even quotes him. I still think however I really better appreciate the do less book. As I sit here outside on my back deck with my big purple planter in my lap

A very aesthetically pleasing short book, highlighting 4 aspects of life: Spiritual, Intellectual, Physical and Emotional. One aspect supporting the other, it provides some practical exercises but doesn't go into too much detail.. Worth reading

Provides the necessary steps needed to elevate and displays relatability!

This was another great read. When it comes to reading, I tend to stick to self-help topics and this book is definitely at the top of my list as it provides steps, resources, gives examples and inspiring stories. Another great one I read before that is referenced in the book is "The Miracle Morning," and also one that is not referenced is "The Four Tendencies." "Elevate" is going on my favorites list as I do intend on working through the provided tasks. Great job Mr. Glazer!

Glazer encourages us to build our capacity. He means not just doing more but doing more of the right things. He divides life into four areas and gives training and practical suggestions for growth in each of them

Spiritual capacity is about understanding who we are and knowing what we want most in life. He helps reveal core values and our core purpose, leading to the standards by which we live.

Intellectual capacity is about our ability to think, learn, plan, and execute. He writes about having a growth mindset, crafting goals, establishing routines and habits, and about reflective journaling.

Physical capacity is about our health and well-being. He writes about physical performance, sleep, and creating a healthy life.

Emotional capacity is about how we react to challenges, the state of our emotional mindset, and our relationships. He writes about how we manage the voice in our head, overcoming self-limiting beliefs, and having a positive attitude.

I liked this personal development book. There was nothing in it amazingly new, but I've read lots of books like this one. It is a good general reminder of the principles of personal growth. The strength of the book may well be the practical action steps and links to further encouraging material. Glazer reminds us the road to capacity building is a bumpy one. He has been working on it many years and has made mistakes along the way. I appreciate that we can learn from his experience.

“The key to boosting your performance and achieving more is working on four core areas of your life. These are your spiritual, intellectual, physical and emotional “capacities.” How do you do that? Well, the best place to start is clarifying what you actually want in life. Once you’re clear about your goal, you can start honing the skills and abilities you’ll need to reach it
Actionable advice:
Protect your mornings by keeping them tech-free.
The time between waking up and beginning your routine is crucial – it’s literally what sets you up for the day ahead. Unfortunately, our digital devices and gadgets mean we often fail to make the most of this time. Rather than working on our own projects, we waste these precious minutes answering emails or browsing Facebook. But there’s a simple fix: commit to keeping the first hour of each day tech-free. Whether you put your phone in a drawer or use an app to restrict usage is up to you. Either way, you’ll be amazed at how much you can get done when you’re not distracted!”

A snappy, engaging how-to guide for a better life, Glazer's book should be the next read for anyone serious about growing as a business leader and human being. Each section is neatly organized, packed with inspiring/fascinating stories, and closes with simple - and powerful - action steps you can take immediately. Within 10 minutes of starting the book, I had already completed the WHY App assessment, gaining valuable perspective on who I am and what drives me! If that was the only thing I got out of the book, it would be profoundly worthwhile, but that was just from the FIRST chapter. I've done a quick read through the entire book and now look forward to going back through and implementing/testing the ideas in each section for myself. This will be my go-to gift book for the holidays. Highly recommend!

This is one of those books where each chapter is a micro summary of a book author enjoyed reading. If you put the text into proper book format, it would probably shrink from "170" pages to maybe 50-60. There was nothing new in the book for me. If you read leadership and personal development books often, this book won't give you anything new. But it was a good summary for me and gave some boost of motivation, which I needed these days. Hence the 3 stars.

Wiele miejsca autor poświęca procesie samorealizacji w budowaniu potencjału duchowego, życiowych motywach, codziennych nawykach i ułatwianiu sobie codzienności, usprawnianiu i poprawianiu.

This inspiring book begins with the simple definitions of the words “Elevate” and “Capacity.” Robert Glazer then explains the technique of Capacity Building: “the method by which individuals seek, acquire, and develop the skills and abilities to consistently perform at a higher level in pursuit of their innate potential.” With this groundwork, he then discusses developing each of the four types of capacities: Spiritual (your core values and core purpose), Intellectual (your ability to think, learn and plan), Physical (health and well-being), and Emotional (your relationships, mindset, and how you react in stressful situations). Each capacity type is accompanied by “Action Steps” which are practical exercises ranging from beginner to advanced levels. This multi-faceted approach ensures a balanced personal growth.

Personal experiences and inspirational quotes help illustrate the points of each chapter, making the information easy to comprehend and put into practice. The proposed exercises range from taking a strengths assessment (available online), to trying something outside your comfort zone, to setting short and long term goals. Individualized, since it is based on your values and purpose, Capacity Building can help you “Elevate” beyond your limitations. This quick read is uplifting and powerful.

This was the faculty/staff development read for the Spring 2022 at UND. I liked it. Some great advice about finding balance in your life, and some suggestions for prioritizing, trying new things and getting out of your own way.

We had a discussion group which met 3 times. In the first meeting, about half the members talked about wanting to journal more (the book comes with a cool little journal book), which I also said. But then I realized I use my blog for that, so I'm sort of already doing it. Although the journal that came with the book has tons of great writing prompts.

For most of the 2nd and 3rd meetings, the facilitator just bitched and bitched and bitched about the book: how it was the wrong choice and it was such a priviledged perspective and this guy shouldn't have even been allowed to write a book. I didn't disagree with her general assessment (though she was a bit extra), it's just that I didn't understand the point of using our valuable time this way. If you're that outraged by the existence of the book, don't be a facilitator for the discussion! (I gave that feedback in my eval of the discussion group.) I have no problem with disliking the book or criticizing it, but I would have much preferred to spend the time finding what value we could in the book (there was plenty).

Read this book to become a better version of yourself!

I enjoyed reading this book and it inspired me to challenge myself more often in my life and career. It is written in a fun and accessible way but the messages within it are serious and powerful. I heard about this book when listening to an interview of the author on Careerblast https://careerblast.tv/try-it/fuel-up....

Robert Glazer’s book explains the four capacities within each of us (Spiritual, Intellectual, Physical and Emotional) and how there needs to be harmony among them. This balance ideally creates a wheel that moves forward but if there is an imbalance among the capacities, it will slow you down like a wheel that is not well-rounded.

It was a quick read (I read it all in one sitting on an airplane ride) with great resources to delve into further depth in any of the areas. Each chapter ends with actionable steps you can take. I know the true power of this book is not in reading it, it’s in the doing afterward, but this book can inspire you to get started.

Glazer does a good job of pulling together ideas for how we can optimise our performance but also get a lot more enjoyment out of our work. The author brings together ideas developed in other books, articles and TED Talks and in doing so he has written a very accessible book which is an excellent guide to being both productive and happy. I’d consider this to be an excellent ‘starter guide’ to personal planning and development.

If like me, you have previously read a lot about the importance of identifying a core purpose and core values, you will already be familiar with a lot of the materials, particularly if you’ve worked with One Page Plan methodologies in business (I recommend Business Execution For RESULTS by (my friend) Stephen Lynch). The book also draws on topics of Why by Simon Sinek, Grit by Angela Duckworth and Vulnerability by Brene Brown and uses these resources well.

I found this to be an enjoyable read, though I didn’t get a lot new out of it but if unlocking your potential and finding ways to improve your success is a new topic for you then this is a great place to start.

It's not often that a project digs so deeply into the individual aspects of our opportunities for personal growth yet delivers it in a way that feels as though it can be implemented at any time. And this is exactly what I took away from Bob Glazer's newest book, Elevate. Following closely along with Bob's career, Elevate is the culmination of much of his insights from the past while also looking ahead to our future opportunities for personal growth. As someone who has particularly struggled with aspects of emotional growth, particular from a professional perspective, I found that Bob's blend of his four categories brought forth a new level of inspiration and understanding for me that has also elevated other aspects of my life. I'm excited to see what more is to come from Bob in the future!

I've enjoyed following and reading Friday Forwards and Performance Partnerships by Bob Glazer. He's experience and insights go deeper than mere steps, but navigating mindset changes that enable us to develop better relationships which last. Elevate resonates with me, because as a strategic advisor for growth leaders and investors, the best performance leaders exemplify what Glazer has outlined here. No longer it's it about fast aim-less execution. Future success will be about developing relationships, resilience and intellectual curiosity to name a few.

It was an easy read, the visuals were enjoyable, and chock full of resources to further expand on the journey of change.

I loved reading this book. It was both enjoyable and a fairly quick read with a lot of meat. Bob takes the time to break down the four types of capacity that the reader needs to keep in mind when looking to elevate themselves both professionally and personally, which go hand in hand.

This book challenges and inspires you to take inventory of your own life as well as shares several examples at the end of each chapter steps you can take to challenge yourself to grow and elevate within your own life.

I'm already thinking of several people I’d like to share Bob's book with and maybe even give as Christmas/birthday gifts this year!

I've been a long time follower of the author's Friday Forward newsletter and was so excited that he has distilled the ideas of Friday Forward into his newest book, Elevate. The topic of capacity building is so important not only to professional but personal growth as well. Robert's methods work on every level - from the c-suite to someone just embarking in their career. His ideas are to help us be the best versions of ourselves that we can as well as help to motivate others. A much needed message today!

“For everyone who knows deep down they can be more.” Those are the opening words of this book. That message permeates throughout as Robert Glazer takes you on a journey for what he calls Capacity Building, in four different areas of your life. The flow of the book and the examples he uses would give any reader the opportunity to grow and be a better human. What a difference that would make in our world! This book will give you an opportunity to learn more strategies to increase your positive influence in everything you do. Who doesn't want that?

Robert Glazer is the rare leader who focuses on how we can help each other be our best. I've been a fan of his Friday Forward for years now and, upon reading an advance copy of Elevate, was so impressed by how it distills the concepts of achievement, personal growth, self-reflection and the impact we can have on others into a fast, easy, fulfilling read. This is a must read for anybody who wants to understand themselves better, discover what they want most, and make the changes necessary to pursue that vision.

The book you WANT to read when you feel you're on a neverending spinning wheel, with no power to change anything. Robert Glazer has the capacity to show you, with simple and inspiring words, that YOU CAN CHANGE and you can get off that wheel and on board of a satisfying life, both professionally and personally.

The text along is wonderfully completed with practical advice and resources to help you move forward, one step at a time. Happy to have come across this book and one I plan to re-read from time to time.
