But, what happens when we stop the track is that we are only left with a bunch of notes out of context. It's better to think in terms of the chords. You can use the chord shapes as kind of skeletons that will direct your lead. In this way the listener will still hear the chord progression even without the backing track. This kind of playing is really demanding mentally so to recharge mix it all up with some automatic licks or pentatonic based soloing.
