Baan Nai Nakhon Boutique Hotel

Just fabulous

At the heart of Songkhla’s old town, Baan Nai Nakhon is a beautiful six-room boutique hotel set in a restored heritage house.

Travelfish says:

Fronted by potted plants and green lanterns, the three-floor building with teal trim stands directly over the most picturesque street in the old town. Step inside and a lounge filled with antiques, old photos and dark-wood accents evokes the feel of an early 20th century Sino-Siamese merchant’s home. Outside, flowers and fountains fill a terrace where the included breakfasts are served.

A staircase takes you up to rooms decorated individually in a property that embodies the true meaning of a boutique hotel. One room has a palette of dark violet and crimson to go with varnished wood floors and an antique brass sink in the hot-water bathroom. Another sports fine china hung from floral-pattern tiles along with handmade quilt and rain shower. In all rooms, screened windows overlook the street and old town rooftops.

In addition to soft lamps with purple or green shades, all rooms come with air-con, desks, WiFi and fridges, but no TVs. Comfy queen mattresses make this a good choice for couples, but not for families or friends preferring separate beds. Bicycles are available for guests, though you’ll have to park on one of the narrow lanes if bringing your own vehicle.

The host, Mr Danai (or Danny), speaks fluent English and will point you towards little-known secrets of the old town. Thanks to him we found Auntie Kajib’s delicious Southern Thai curries at the southern end of Nang Ngam. You’ll also come across old-style coffee, mango with sticky rice, pad Thai and even pizza within steps of Baan Nai Nakhon.
