Sometimes your first love deserves a second chance.

He was my first crush, my first kiss, my first everything.
But I’m not a lovesick teenager anymore, and I’d never let that cocky troublemaker break my heart again.
So when he shows up out of the blue asking me to have dinner with him “for old time’s sake,” I say I will. After all, it’s been twelve years, and I’m stronger and smarter than I was back then.
Except…he still does something to me. He’s got those eyes that make me weak, those hands that drive me wild, and a body I can’t resist—especially once I see the tattoos. It doesn’t take long for our trip down memory lane to go from sweet to sizzling.
We’re just as good together as we were back then—better, even—and I’m willing to give the only man I’ve ever loved another chance.
But he’s got to tell me the truth.

* * *

All I wanted was to see her again. Tell her I’m sorry. Make her smile.
Okay, that’s a lie. I wanted to do more than that—a lot more. But I know she’s better off without me, and I promised myself I’d behave.
Except I’ve never been much good at keeping promises…or my hands to myself when I’m around her.
I can make her laugh, I can make her cry, I can make her body surrender to mine in ways that neither of us could have imagined back then. I can—and I do—love her more than she’ll ever know.
But I can’t tell her the real reason why I’m here.
And I can’t stay.

As far as second chance romances go this was an okish read, the only reason why this didn't get a 5 star rating from me is that I wanted to just stay in the moment of angst, I wanted the emotions to pour out of me which I think is crucial when it comes to second chance love stories, years had gone by, they had briefly thought of the other fleetingly so with how it all came about that he'd look her up whilst passing through town, wasn't really believable.

And even though he was only a teen at the time when they were ripped apart I just wanted to feel all the sadness of what could've been, of the time that had been wasted. I wanted to feel the injustice of it all. I wanted him to work for her love again before they reconnected. But the story didn't allow for that. I found it fast paced and it lacked pulling those emotions that I generally crave when it comes to a reconnection of lost loves.

But please don't let my review put you off, these are only my opinions, what I didn't like may be the opposite for you. Please one click come release day and form you're own opinions because I loved the previous book in this series. This just didn't work for me.

“Dallas Shepherd. My first crush, my first kiss, my first everything.”

I am and will always be a massive sucker for second chance love stories; so when I read the synopsis to Only Him by Melanie Harlow, I knew this is one book I needed in my life. I thrive on the heartache, the intense emotions, the anticipation, the angst and the undeniable unconditional love that seeps off the pages. I love being drawn into an epic love story so deeply that I can feel every high and every low and while I did really enjoy this story and the characters Melanie created for us, I just wished there was more angst and more emotion.

Maren knows the kind of intense love that people only dream of experiencing one day. Some may say it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all, but when you are at the forefront of heartache and despair of what could have been, you may think differently.

Unfortunately for Maren the love was not to last, because her first and one true love was ripped away from her and she was left with a shattered heart; unsure of whether it could ever be mended. Fast forward 12 years and the one man that broke Maren’s heart (who is also the only one who can heal her) returns to town and invites her for dinner. A dinner to catch up perhaps, a dinner for old times’ sake maybe, or a dinner that might forever change Maren’s life? Will she be able to forgive the man that left her so many years ago and will she be able to control her deep need for him?

Dallas had loved only one girl his whole life, Maren. But when he was seventeen that powerful love was ripped away from him and he never got the opportunity to say goodbye. There comes a point when a love so profound as this, so intense, consumes your whole life and you can’t possible stay away any longer from the one person who completes you, even if you believe they are better off without you.

Will Maren be able to forgive Dallas for all the time wasted, for all the heartbreak she had had to endure? Will they pick up where they left off? And will Dallas stay this time?

If you crave your second chance love stories then I’m sure you’ll devour this story. I only wished for more angst, what can I say? I thrive on my ultra angsty second chance love stories. I still enjoyed the deep emotions that come with an intense love that is lost and then found. The heartbreak, the grief of a love lost, the hope of a new beginning, the power of forgiveness and a second chance.

It was then and it was now and there was never a time when our bodies didn’t crave this heat and our hearts didn’t share this rhythm and our souls weren’t always leading us right back to this place, this feeling, this moment. I clung to it as if it could save me from drowning.

ONLY HIM is an emotional second chance romance that will tug at your heartstrings. This second installment of the ”One and Only” series focuses on the youngest of the Devine sisters, Maren. If you haven’t picked up ”ONLY YOU which is Emme and Nate’s “friends-to-lovers” story, you really need to make time for it. Although each book can be read as a standalone, the series is pretty amazing and you’ll want to meet each of the Devine sisters.

We barely got a chance to know what Maren was all about in the first installment. What we learn in her story is that she has a big heart and would do anything for her loved ones. She may come off as a hippie chick with weird beliefs but there is depth to this character. Maren has only ever had one great romance in her life and it was her high school sweetheart and first love, Dallas Shepherd. At the tender age of sixteen, her heart was shattered by the boy who was her world, when he unexpectedly left town without a goodbye or explanation for Maren. Twelve years later, she hasn’t forgotten her first love and no man has ever measured up to him in her eyes.

One day she gets the shock of her life when Dallas shows up on her front doorstep. He claims he’s felt horrible for the way he left things with Maren and wanted to make amends and tie up loose ends. At first, Maren unleashes all of her pent up anger and hurt on him, but it doesn’t take long before she offers Dallas her forgiveness.

Dallas is only in town for a couple days and he and Maren end up going out to dinner. Reminiscing about old times plus strong feelings that never died soon have the two tangled up in a passionate affair that they stupidly believe they can walk away from after their weekend together is over.

Maren thinks that maybe this is finally her chance at a happily ever after and Dallas is giving her all the right signals. But Dallas isn’t being completely honest with her and now this is the second Hero in this series that I had a hard time with because he was such a coward!

Will Maren get the love and the forever after that she deserves?

Here are my overall ratings

Hero: 4
Heroine: 4.5

Maren Devine is a beautiful, single 29 yr. old woman living in Detroit. She was a ballet dancer who now owns & runs a successful yoga studio. She has two amazing sisters she adores, but no special someone in her life. It’s been a while since she’s been in a relationship, and she often wonders if it’s because nobody measures up to her high school sweetheart Dallas Shepherd. He loved her so intensely and completely, and then suddenly vanished from her life. She was left with a broken heart that never fully healed. She hopes one day she will finally be over him, and then he shows up out of the blue with apologies and a dinner invitation.

Dallas Shepherd was always known to be impulsive & rebellious as a teen. His relationship with his family is complicated. His senior year of high school he kept getting into trouble, and was sent away. He was 17 when he left the only girl he’d ever loved without a goodbye. He never quit thinking about her, and leaving her remained his biggest regret. He’s now 30, and a tattoo artist in Portland. His life is suddenly in turmoil, and he feels he needs to see Maren. They have unfinished business and he can’t stay away any longer.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Dallas & Maren haven’t seen each other in 12 years, but it’s almost like no time has passed. Being together felt easy & right, but Maren was scared if she let Dallas back into her heart he might hurt her all over again. As they reconnect she quickly learns she still can’t resist him. He’s even more gorgeous than before, and their chemistry is still sizzling hot. They begin to wonder if this could be another chance for them. When their together they feel alive, but the timing is bad. Is there hope for this couple, or will secrets, insecurities, trust, and broken promises derail their second chance at love?

-If I wanted something, I went after it. And I wanted Maren.

-She was so beautiful it hurt.

-I loved that she still kissed me like she was seventeen and no one was watching. I felt connected to her in a way I’d been unable to connect with any other woman I’d been with.

-“I want this. Even if it’s just for one night, I want this. I want you.”

-He took me in his arms, and it was like home. Warm, safe, solid, familiar.

I really enjoyed this second chance romance about first loves, new beginnings, and taking chances. Only You is book 2 in the One and Only series, but can be read as a standalone. This was my first book by Melanie Harlow, and I can’t wait to read more of her books. Emme & Stella’s stories will be next on my MH list! :))

When you read Melanie Harlow, I know I am guaranteed sweet. I know it’ll be a good read and one I’ll like. Only Him is that. I enjoyed it, this read definitely brought different emotions out in me though.

Dallas and Maren were high school sweethearts until Dallas was sent away to boarding school senior year. He didn’t tell Maren he was leaving, he just left, thinking that was what was best for Maren. Not even a text. Flash forward 11 years and you are at today.

These two incredible characters are brought together and the intense connection is still there, still simmering with each look, with each touch. The chemistry, the protectiveness, the passion, and the love is clearly still shining. Even after a night out, it is undeniable how these two feel. Neither one has had this connection with anyone in years, since being apart from each other.

So what’s going to happen when a bombshell is dropped and they are losing each other again. Will they survive or will the betrayal of lies separate these two that are clearly destined for each other?

This book had my emotions everywhere. Let me explain. It wasn’t a book I sobbed at, but it definitely yanked my heart and maybe I did shed a tear. This book frustrated me, at the lying. This book had me swooning at the tenderness and love these two have. This book had me hoping that happily ever after would be given to this deserving couple. This book brought me back Emme and Nate❤️. This book gave a second chance and maybe even a third chance at living life with the one you were made for. Oh and this book, it’s fricken sexy. And this book made me extremely happy in the end. I can’t wait to get more of these Devine sisters💗

I'm sad to say that Only Him is my least favorite book from Melanie Harlow. It wasn't bad but it didn't reach my expectations either. Only Him is a second chance romance. It was sweet, sexy and emotional.

Maren and Dallas meet again after years. Dallas has left her without saying anything and now he wants to apologise to her. There is still love and passion between them.

I haven't decide yet what was the main reason I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted.I loved the characters and the plot was good I just felt that something was missing.

"I have all that need. I am where I need to be."

Only Him is a sexy second chance romance. Dallas and Maren's story is emotional and heartfelt.
They loved each other fiercely as teenagers. When Dallas leaves unexpectedly, Maren is left heartbroken. Fast forward twelve years and he's back seeking forgiveness.

I loved several things about Only Him. It's quintessential Melanie Harlow! Sexy and emotional. There's a little bit of angst and family drama. It feels real and the reader gets a real sense of the characters. Maren and Dallas jump off the page. Dallas is sexy and the steamy scenes are just that....Steamy.

However, things seemed a bit too easy. Not the emotional issue that causes the major conflict, but the overall reunion. Unfortunately, I didn't connect with Maren on a basic level and felt the pace moved just a bit too quickly. I think if my boyfriend showed up years later, he'd have to work just a little bit harder for my affections. This is all very subjective, so if you're fan of this author, as I am, definitely give it try!

After reading Only You, I couldn't wait to read more about Maren and her long lost sweetheart, Dallas. Their relationship sounded like one filled with angst and I couldn't be happier.

The only problem for me is that it wasn't really angsty. I mean, it is but not as much as I would have liked. It was really obvious how much they both cared for each other...it was just a matter of convincing a certain stubborn someone.

Dallas and Maren were together in high school when he left abruptly without saying goodbye leaving them both with unresolved issues.

description

Dallas has some things going on in his life that sends him back to Maren's area. He decides to visit her and right a wrong. Things go so well that he draws things out causing their feelings to develop even further.

I really enjoyed these two together. They just fit so well and the steamy times aren't so bad either!

It was great getting to know Dallas' brother, Finn. I was really intrigued by his story.

And as always, it was great getting more of Maren's sisters. I love what's going on in Emme's life but I was a little disappointed not getting more of Stella, especially since her book, Only Love, is next...coming out November 26, 2018.

Absolutely loved this book. Melanie Harlow is my goddess of contemporary and sexy reads.
I have read almost everything by her and some books multiple times.
I love second chance stories because they are so real. Lets face it-who hasn't messed up at least once in life or in a relationship.
I really wish that she had included the below scene in her book but it is available to read for free on her website (it reads like an additional epilogue).

Spoiler alert: don't read below if you haven't read this book yet.

Only Him by Melanie Harlow is a second chance romance with a slight angst thrown into the mix. This book was sweet and sexy. As far as emotions go, Melanie made you fall in love with these characters and that the idea of forever love does exist. Dallas and Maren’s story is complicated, beautiful love story that centers on forgiveness, healing, and the ideal concept of fate. So if you are looking for a story where two far from perfect characters are reunited who discover their love for one another then this book is for you.

I waited for this damn book for months.
I was on it as soon as it dropped.
I have enjoyed every Melanie Harlow book I've read, and I trusted her.
And the book started out great, but then the POV switched and the bottom dropped out.
Now, I have a no-exceptions hard-limit when it comes to my reading, and wouldn't you know? I went into this book like a blind idiot and BAM.

And I really can't believe all the rave reviews, like it's a beautiful, heartfelt second-chance story with a happy ending.
Yeah, how about no?
See, this is why I support spoilers. I seek them out, because I don't like being surprised by certain things and because I do not want to encounter this particular trope. As in ever.
Ev. Er.
It's a 100% guaranteed deal breaker for me. However, it seems like I'm in the minority here, which is perfectly OK. But as mentioned, there are loads of great reviews yet nobody mentions the fact that the hero has a fucking. Brain. Tumour. He has a brain tumour.
What the fuck.

Months ago I ripped a Corrinne Michaels book for the same reason as I'm writing this now, because, well...fuck that.
I don't want to read about that shit.
It's a trigger for some people - like ME.
The considerate thing for a writer to do is WARN people, but no, it's all about making that money.
Well, I dumped 'Only Him' off my Kindle quicker than you can say 'O hell no' and got my money back.
Because I am not having that shit. And I won't be reading any more from Ms. Harlow.

4 Dreaming CROWNS

Melanie Harlow’s books are the epitome of what a classic romance is - the belief of soulmates, fated couples, and the idea of if it is meant to be it will be. It is often nice to got lost in these romanticized worlds, to escape real life and believe in romance, the ones we dreamed of as little girls and even as adult women.

Dallas and Maren are high school sweethearts that fell apart at the hands of young and reckless choices. Readers will feel bad for the way Dallas is treated by his family, it will allow them to forgive his choices, but outside of this and his love for Maren, I didn’t really feel like I knew much about him. What I did know, I enjoyed. I also like Maren’s character. I love that she forgives. She tries to live a pure and simplistic life, really only wanting a life with the man who broke her heart. Again, though, I’m not sure that I knew much about her except her enjoyment of yoga and wholistic life style and her love of Dallas.

I did enjoy these two together. I got swept away in the quick rekindling of their love, and I was sad and angry when it inevitably fell apart. While I did enjoy the plot, it is predictable. I knew what the story would be from very early on, and it did not deviate. That doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. I did. Like I said, it is nice to lose yourself in a story that has idealistic romantic beliefs, and Only Him is pure romance.

Readers will be swept away in the fast paced romance, and they will enjoy the characters and the journey. More than that, though, readers are going to be caught up in the idea of living all the moments of your life with all the people you love because their is no other way.

Wow. I didn't expect to read that in one sitting but couldn't put it down. And after many tears and many kleenexes I'm kind of exhausted. If you love a second chance romance with a stubborn 'I'm doing this for you' hero who will make you cry and make you swoon, then this is the book for you. I want this to be a movie (but not a Hallmark one because this story is too spicy for that).
Any book that can make me cry and put off for hours the things I need to do today is an automatic 5 star read!
I'm loving this author and this series...

I am an absolute sucker for second chance romances featuring childhood sweethearts and Only Him fit the bill perfectly. It will pull on your heartstrings and give you all the feels. Readers may remember meeting Maren in Only You, but this book can be read as a stand alone.

Dallas and Maren have a complicated relationship. They shared an incredible connection that no other man or woman has come close to ever replicating. The sudden and drastic end of their relationship in high school though has left them both without closure and with heavy regret. When they finally reconnect after more than a decade apart, it's clear that the chemistry they once shared is still alive and well. Who knew clearing your chakra's could be so hot!? Demons from the past and trust issues continue to plague them, however, and threaten to destroy the second chance they may have found. Will love be enough to overcome their fears this time?

The relationship between the Devine sisters is the best and I have always loved the way that Melanie Harlow writes her female characters and friendships. I loved checking in with Nate and Emme and was so happy with the little tidbits we got about the progression of their relationship. Bee-lieve me when I say that I'm also really excited for Stella's story next! ;) I need to say too that this cover might be my very favorite of Melanie's books. Yum. Yum. YUM!

Love Melanie Harlow's books but this wasn't one I'd recommend.
I am a sucker for any second chance romance. I love the angst, the sheer helplessness of having lost love and the utter joy of having being given a second chance at that lost love..For me, Only Him, lacked that. I missed that emotions that makes you feel breathless, the heartaches but most of all, I missed the love that makes you feel that unconditional love...the pure, intense excitement of a second chance romance.

If I had a dream about a snake and a clock, I would think it meant I’m panicking that we haven’t booked a summer holiday yet and time is running out. But what can it mean to Maren Devine? Perhaps Madame Psuka, the interpreter of dreams and psychic will know.

Maren and Dallas Shepherd were high school sweethearts but he left her without saying goodbye and she never got over it. Dallas was the cheeky chappy, the class clown, liberator of pigs, with a huge inferiority complex due to his super clever brainiac brother Finn.

He needs to put his ducks in order and decides to pay Maren a visit to ease his conscience. The love that simmered ignites again, but the clock is still ticking, the snake is still slithering and the holiday remains unbooked.

I do love Melanie Harlow’s writing style. Her characters are genuinely likeable. They are funny and hell sexy. She weaves a problem in the story and then makes the reader sweat it out while the characters find their way through the maze and come out the other side. She makes you gasp, laugh, smile and swoon. I may have even whelped and cried. Always I giggle.

Sweet and lovely with some cameo appearances from some Harlow favourites.

My most swoon worthy moments:

“Make the most of the time you have. Mend the relationships that matter. Live fully. Love hard.”

“You once asked me to let you love me, and I promised I would. Let me keep my promise.”

“Maybe it was sudden. Maybe it has always been destined. Maybe it was crazy. Maybe it made perfect sense. Maybe love was a game of chance, played at the whims of Cupid, as random as a roll of the dice. Or maybe it was a story written in the stars, about a boy and a girl whose hearts wouldn’t rest until they were together again.”

At no stage was this book an impulse purchase based on the bare chested muscular sexpot on the cover.

Now Madame Psuka should we choose the B&B in Kefalonia or the all inclusive in Crete (update, we chose Crete).

NO SPOILERS!

Only Him was a sexy, angsty, and emotional standalone second chance romance, and I absolutely loved it with all of my heart! The storyline and characters were phenomenal, and I loved Melanie Harlow's writing style. She wrote a beautiful and memorable story for Dallas and Maren, and I honestly loved it from beginning to end. Melanie has done an amazing job with the One and Only series so far, and I'm so excited for Stella's story in Only Love!

The storyline was amazing and so much different than I expected. I honestly didn't know what was going to happen going into this book, but there were several plot twists that I definitely didn't see coming. It was emotional, heartbreaking, and frustrating at times, and it made me feel a roller coaster of emotions, but all of the trials and tribulations were completely worth it. Melanie Harlow has an undeniable talent, and she always creates the most beautiful and unforgettable love stories that resonate deep within your soul, and make you feel so much of everything. Of course not every moment is full of joy and happiness, that's not how like works, but even when times are tough, she makes the journey worth it with a happy ending. Only Him was one of the best - if not THE best - second chance romances that I've ever read, and I was ecstatic with the conclusion to Dallas and Maren's story.

Dallas and Maren were phenomenal and I adored them so much. I loved their personalities and red-hot chemistry together, and how their relationship progressed throughout. I loved reading the book from both Dallas and Maren's point of view, and all of their banter and interactions with each other. Dallas and Maren both struggled with different problems, and it wasn't an easy journey for them by any means, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. Their story was one of a kind in a lot of ways, and it will stay with me forever. Even though it was occasionally difficult and heartbreaking, the ending was completely worth it, and I couldn't have asked for a better conclusion to Dallas and Maren's story. It left me smiling and made me so happy. The secondary characters, namely Maren's sisters and Dallas's brother and his family, were wonderful as well, and I really enjoyed their addition to the story. It took me a little while to warm up to Dallas's brother at first, but I really loved him as the book progressed.

Only Him was a sexy, beautiful, and unforgettable story about overcoming your fears, taking second chances, and living life to the fullest, and I would HIGHLY recommend it! Melanie Harlow did a fantastic job with this standalone second chance romance set in the One and Only series, and I was extremely pleased with the outcome to Dallas and Maren's story. Melanie Harlow is an extraordinarily talented contemporary romance author, and I will forever be a huge fan of her work. Her talent is unparalleled and incomparable, and I can't wait to devour more of her amazing love stories, especially Only Love!

4.5, I'm not done loving you, Stars!!

“Once I saw her, talked to her, I wanted more. You didn’t take one bite of the most delicious cupcake in the world and put it back in the box–you ate the whole thing.”

“We were young and reckless and bursting with need, desperate to satisfy the gnawing hunger inside of us that never seemed to go away, no matter how often we fed it.”

“God help me, I wanted her love. I wanted to believe what she was saying. I wanted to feel like the man she thought I was, even if it was only for tonight.”

“I was not done living, and I’m not done loving you, Maren Devine. Not by a long shot.”

Only Him is a beautifully written second chance romance. With Melanie Harlow’s signature humor and wit, this story is sure to make you believe in the forever kind of love.

Only Him is the second book in The One and Only Series and follows the story of Maren and Dallas. Maren and Dallas had the once in a lifetime love. They fell hard and fast. Maren was the good girl and Dallas couldn’t seem to stay out of trouble. But, somehow, these two just worked. Their story was everything you could want until their happily ever after was ripped away….Now, 12 years later, neither one of them has forgotten about the other. To Maren and Dallas, they are the one who got away. Fate has a plan in mind and is about to turn these two former lovers lives upside down. Will they be able to move on from the past? Is it too late for second chances? Or will a devastating secret destroy everything once again??? There’s only one way to find out….

Only Him is the kind of story that just screams romance at you. It sucks you in from page one and will have your eyes glued to the pages. Maren and Dallas are the kind of couple that just can’t help rooting for. They are far from perfect, and that just makes me love them even more. Their story tugged at my heart and left me breathless. It was beautiful. It was complicated. It was down right heartbreaking. There were moments where I wanted to rage. Moments that made me want to scream and just devastated me. There were moments that had me swooning so hard, I thought I was going to float away.

Only Him is everything I want from a second chance romance. Secrets. Lies. Love. Humor. Heartache. Pain. Forgiveness. Acceptance. This book had it all. It’s the kind of story that will just bury itself into your heart and keep you begging for more. It’s the kind of story that takes you by surprise and that will take you on the most fantastic journey. And when you get the end, you’ll be left with a full heart and smile that just won’t stop.

I enjoyed everything about this story from beginning to end and look forward to re-reading it again in the near future.

Dallas grew up in his older brother’s shadow, never feeling good enough in more ways than one. As a teenager, he was always getting in trouble and when he was 17-years old, his parents shipped him off to boarding school, which meant he had to leave his girlfriend, Maren, behind. But instead of doing the right thing, he left without saying goodbye and he hasn’t been able to forgive himself for it ever since. Now at 30-years old, Dallas works as a tattoo artist in Portland and still feels like he’s a failure in the eyes of his family. But now he’s forced to go back home and face his brother—so he decides to make a pit stop and visit Maren, the girl that’s been haunting him for over a decade.

Maren is happy with her life—she owns a yoga studio, lives a healthy lifestyle and has a great relationship with her two older sisters. But she’s been having repeated nightmares that she can’t seem to figure out. Maren thinks they may be related to her unresolved feelings about Dallas—her first love, her first kiss, her first everything. Ever since he left without a word 12-years ago, he’s been on her mind. So when she gets a knock on her door, she isn’t expecting Dallas to be standing in front of her, asking for her forgiveness.

Although Dallas hurt Maren all those years ago, she forgives him. And they have one weekend together—laughter, dates, kisses, and more. Maren feels Dallas creeping his way back into her heart and she’s sure that she’s well within his. But good things can’t always last forever, and Maren might end up alone again, regardless of if she wants him to stay…

Only Him is the second installment in Melanie Harlow’s One and Only series. After reading and loving Only You, I couldn’t wait to pick up the second book in this series. I’m a big fan of second chance romances, but only if they’re done right. Some parts of this story didn’t work for me. I didn’t like how Maren forgave Dallas without giving it a second thought. And their relationship seemed very insta-love from then on out. Of course there were lingering feelings from their teenage relationship, but it all felt a little rushed. Luckily, the ending was cute and it redeemed some of the parts I didn’t like earlier in the book. I can’t wait to finish out this series! 3.75/5 stars.

We met Maren in Only You as she is Emme's sister. She is a former ballerina and current yoga instructor. She is sweet, funny, caring, and understanding. She should be centered and balanced, but lately she is struggling a bit.

Dallas Shepherd was her first and only love. And one day he disappeared on her and left her heartbroken. Now twelve years later, he shows up at her door.

Oh my...Dallas just stole my heart. He is charming, sensitive, loving, but also stubborn impulsive, and self sacrificing. He has made a new life for himself as a tattoo artist in a new town. But he is a man with issues, regrets, fears, and is stuck at a crossroads. He has secrets and he is determined not to share them and make himself too vulnerable. He has been conditioned to believe that he is not good enough. And he just wants the best for her.

Maren has her own issues with self worth and trust. Really they both have trust issues with their own judgment and about the other. When they are together it seems so right, but there are also things that could leave one or both of them broken-hearted again. They will have to figure out if they can get over old hurts, face current problems, and are willing to fight to have a real chance this time.

I was immediately sucked into this beautiful, heartfelt, second-chance love story and could not put it down. I enjoyed getting their dual points of view since it really showed their innermost thoughts and emotions. They had such a connection, chemistry, and rapport, but they could also be stubborn. This one hits you with so many feels! My heart hurt. I was sad or angry. I wanted to shake sense into them at times and at other times offer a hug. And I also smiled, swooned, or laughed. I absolutely adored these two together and was rooting for them the whole time.

This can be read as a total stand-alone, but I did enjoy getting more with her sisters, Emme and Stella, Nate, and Dallas' brother, Finn. The family was an important part of the dynamics. There were also a couple other little fun cameos. I just loved this book, and I am looking forward to Stella's book next since she has got me intrigued.

I went through a lot of emotions while reading ONLY HIM by Melanie Harlow. Glee, nostalgia, disappointment and even frustration. The beginning and end of this book is solid. But I was lost somewhere in the middle with the story and I just didn’t like where it all went for a time. The reason for the four is because of the ending. The feeling it gave me, the one I wanted to feel for the whole book finally surfaced and I was awarded with the brilliant writing I was anticipating from Harlow the whole read.

Maren and Dallas were given a second chance. Not because either of them had hoped for a possibility at rekindling a romance from back in their teens-but because of something out of anyone’s control. Thinking you’re on your way to make amends and say goodbye was Dallas’s intention when he wound up on Maren’s doorstep...falling back into bed and into love wasn’t on the agenda. But true love never dies and even though the possibility of Dallas not having his life for much longer is on the table, he’s unwilling to share the news with Maren. Bringing them right back to what broke them up in the first place. His lies and his leaving. History was repeating itself.

While this trope has been repeatedly covered, over and over again, Harlow still managed to keep some individuality tied to it. Seconds chance romance can be hard to navigate and the character of Maren was probably the best part of the book for me. She was tough, she soldiered on, spoke her mind and didn’t take any BS from anyone. Especially Dallas. Her relationships with her sisters were genuine and lovely and that made for a better subplot.

I should also mention that Dallas and Finn really warmed my heart with their reconciliation. It took some time and they had to work hard to work through their differences and age gap, but it worked really well from a readers perspective.

Save for the middle of this read, I enjoyed the journey Dallas and Maren went on. It took nearly 2 decade to get to a place where both of them were happy and content with their lives, individually and together. Their dedication and love for each other eventually came to fruition and it was satisfying to read.

I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.

“Tell me we can find a way. Promise me.”

ONLY HIM is a second chance romance that will take your breath away! It’s sexy, beautiful, angsty goodness that you will never want to put down. Dallas and Maren were wonderful characters that will melt your heart. Like any great second chance romance, the chemistry, the connection is there in spades, but when you add Melanie Harlow’s heart and soul in the mix, it becomes something more. Her writing has a way of reaching to the depths of my soul and pulling every single emotion possible out of me, and with this story, there was that heartbreaking, achy feeling that you couldn’t deny, but there was also a wonderful, almost uplifting feeling that took its place. While this myriad of emotions are swirling around in your mind, you can’t help but root for this couple every step of the way. Harlow, once again, gives us an unforgettable and emotional love story with a happily ever after you won’t want to miss. It may be a hard road to get to this happily ever after, but the heartache will be worth it, for sure!

Another perfectly sweet, second-chance romance from Melanie Harlow. With just enough angst to keep me craving that happily ever after.

Dallas, a 30-year-old tattoo artist, is a broken and flawed hero who has to work past his issues and allow himself to love and be loved. Maren, a 29-year-old yoga studio owner/instructor, keeps having a recurring nightmare and is trying to figure out what her subconscious is telling her.

They were high school sweethearts. He left without a goodbye thinking she'd be better without him. But 12 years later they're both still hung up on each other. When Dallas gets news that makes him question his future he starts by showing up on Maren's doorstep to ask for forgiveness.

I love that a second chance romance gives me that backstory that makes their connection more believable. I was heartbroken for Dallas and how his family treated him his whole life. So mad at him for being a selfish bastard.  Swooned over his heartfelt email. And then the "tattoo" at the end. Awww, loved it!!

Melanie harlow always write a romantic stort with a dash of dramatic in it. In Only Him there is no difference. This is a secind change story. Dallas who is sick, came back to Detroit to find Marlin, who he left in hurry 12 years ago. His intention is to apogize but he never plan to fall in love with her again.

But when his sickness becomes worse, he pushes her away and breaks her heart.

It is a very simple story and i think the ending is bit rush. But i really can relate to how Dallas groveling back to Marlin with messages and email and waiting every minute for her to reply back. Yes i definetly can relate to it. The chakra things is bit cheesy though.

Overall this is enjoyable book.

“It’s never too late.”

4 stars

I love this book! A gorgeous second-chance-romance between former high school sweethearts, and a beautiful story of personal drama and character growth. Typical Melanie Harlow, this book is sweet, fun, sexy and romantic with a whole lot of heart and it was a great read.

Maren is the youngest of the Devine sisters that are the heroines of this series. She is a yoga instructor, very spiritual and in touch with her inner-self, but she is plagued with a recurring nightmare that makes her think she’s holding on to something from her past that was never resolved – perhaps the loss of her first love? So she’s completely blown away when he suddenly appears on her doorstep.

Dallas Shepherd. My first crush. My first kiss. My first everything.

Dallas and Maren were once everything to each other. They loved each other deeply, and even at 17 they were all set for a future together when Dallas was suddenly moved away by his family. But he did it without saying goodbye to Maren, breaking both of their hearts. It’s something he has regretted in the 12 years since he last saw her and now he is going through his own personal turmoil and is questioning everything. So when he has the opportunity to travel to Detroit to visit Maren and apologise for his mistake, he takes it.

Dallas plans to apologise to Maren and ask for her forgiveness and then move on. But all it takes is one night back in each other’s presence for all of those feelings from the past to come flooding back, and it’s clear to both of them that they never really moved on from the other.

“I want this. Even if it’s just for one night, I want this. I want you.”

Oh my God, I love a second-chance-romance, and this one is so, so beautiful! I could feel the chemistry between Maren and Dallas – the longing, the passion, and the strong feelings that they had for each other - and I freaking loved that they were so out there and honest about it! They talked about their past, their present, and everything that they were feeling, and it’s all so functional! I loved it!

“Listen to me.” I said. “Not a day has gone by that I didn’t think of you and regret what I’d done. Not one fucking day.”
“Really?” her voice was shaky.
“Yes. I walked away because I was young and stupid and ashamed. Not because I didn’t love you. I did.” I hesitated, then thought
fuck it “I still do.”
Her eyes widened. “What?”
“I never stopped loving you, Maren. I never even tried.”

And, of course, it’s really freaking hot. Melanie Harlow writes a smokin’ love scene, and the passion between these two is on fire!

It was then and it was now and there was never a time when our bodies didn’t crave this heat and our hearts didn’t share this rhythm and our souls weren’t always leading us right back to this place, this feeling, this moment. I clung to it as if it could save me from drowning.

But it’s the feels that got me! They owned it, they admitted it, and the rolled with it, and I love that.

“All I want is you. All I’ve ever wanted is you. And if what you said is true, if you still love me, then we belong together, Dallas. We deserve a second chance.”

I still loved her. I’d never tried not to love her. No matter what I had done, or how long it had been. She was always there, as permanent as any tattoo on my body.

But Dallas has a secret, and it’s a complete game changer. It’s a lot for him to deal with on his own, let alone what it means for his relationship with Maren. It’s dramatic and heartbreaking, and I ached for all that he was going through. I could completely understand what he and Maren were thinking and feeling, and it brings a nice emotional depth to the story.

I loved this book. It’s sweet, sexy, emotional and honest, and the love story stole my heart. Maren and Dallas are gorgeous characters, and their story ends beautifully.

4 stars.

4 Stars!

Only Him is a second-chance romance that gave me all the feels. It pulled at my heartstrings and had me rooting extra hard for Maren and Dallas.

Years ago, Dallas left town without saying goodbye to Maren. And without an explanation as to why. Maren has tried to move on, but in doing so she needs closure to finally be able to. And to her surprise it might come sooner than she thinks.

Dallas hasn't been able to get Maren out of his mind. Leaving her without saying goodbye has been his one regret. And now facing something he has no control of, it's time he finally makes things right.

Maren and Dallas were two people that were destined to be together. It didn't matter how many years had passed, when they saw each other again, it's as if their hearts found their missing piece. But was it enough? Or had too much time passed for there to be a second chance.

Only Him will leave you in an emotional state, but I promise it's worth it.
