Today, we are going to use a blues backing track in the key of A to learn how to apply the chromatic scale in a blues context.
If we take and A minor pentatonic scale in position 1, we have the notes A and C and between these two notes we have to more sounds. Those would be are chromatic notes.
That means that we will have some stable notes (the notes from the scale) and some passing notes.
We can see the notes of the scale as the bones in our structure and the other notes as muscles, flesh, etc.
The key to using this chromaticism musically is subtlety. Take every pentatonic position and explore how you can connect stronger notes with passing tones.
