If you have been following along on my instagram (@bryannah_kay) you know that I have been on a major organization kick lately. My main home decor mission: playroom organization. I’m trying to create a safe space for Bella to play and be creative as she grows.
Life has brought us a lot of chaos and uncertainty as of late. I know I am not alone, a lot of you know what I am talking about when I say that mom life has just been nuts. Mom life needs to be functional and practical because it’s super messy naturally. I thrive during seasons of life where I have control and, honestly, motherhood is not one of those seasons…
Embrace the ambiguity. I attempt to plan, prep, organize and give myself some grace when I can.

Since I have taken on the task of organizing the playroom and working on creating an easy, functional toy storage unit life has seemed more organized… aka I can pretend like I have my life together. It’s an act, I never do.
If you love to read organizational posts take a read at my nursery organization post (here) and my mom hacks post (here). Links to all of our storage units and storage bins are at the bottom of this post.
REALISTIC PLAYROOM ORGANIZATION
My daughter is 14 months so you know she is running, climbing and falling down all at the same time. I wanted our playroom to have a Montessori feel where she can get to everything she wants because it is at her level.
Long-term goal: I want it to be a colorful, creative space that will be easy to organize and keep clean. A mom can dream…
I love this storage unit from Better Homes and Gardens to hold all of her toys. It is more sturdy then the ikea bookshelf hack unit with a nicer finish. It was free to ship right to my house for free and ikea does not offer that at the moment.
FLEXIBLE STORAGE BINS
These cube bins paired perfectly with the storage unit and I love them because they are soft. They are a flexible canvas material that hold up really well. Bella can sit (or fall right into them) without hurting herself or breaking the bin.
My family is always on the go somewhere so I like that I can just grab a bin and throw it in the car and not have to worry about packing her toys to entertain her.
Note: Make sure to check the measurements of the shelf and the bins before you buy. This cube (here) and bookshelf (here) is what you see in the photo.
ORGANIZE BY ACTIVITY
As Bella grows this will help her with sorting but for now it helps me stay organized. Here is an idea for how each playroom bin is organized (bottom bins).
HOW OUR PLAYROOM BINS ARE ORGANIZED:
- 1: Little People toys
- 2: Puzzles + puzzle-type toys
- 3: Blocks
- 4: Musical instruments
I attempt to match the toy bins to the top shelf.
PLAYROOM ORGANIZATION – SHELF CUBES:
- 1: Little People barn house + school bus
- 2: Activity cubes + Puzzle type activities
- 3: Books
- 4: Musical instruments + Piano
EASY CLEAN-UP
The toy storage bins are perfect for an easy post-play clean up and I also keep baskets around the room for dolls. My child has 25 Minnie Mouses in her playroom alone… yes, I know.
The alphabet playmat (similar) has served us very well during Bella’s first year and now that she is gaining better balance. It was perfect for cleaning spit up during tummy time and is soft when she falls. I highly recommend parents to have one of these playmat in their home.
I clean it with Thieves home cleaner (here)
SAFE PLAY SPACE
I’m working on a post for how to anchor your furniture for toddler safety so it’s important to mention here that the shelving unit is anchored.
Another great resource for baby organization is Chelsea over at two twenty one. She is one of my personal favorite bloggers and has been for many years.
