TOP PLAY
TE Caleb Bluiett made a nice one-handed catch about 15 yards downfield on a pass thrown by QB Brandon Allen.
THUMBS UP
The fans: They filled both grandstands on a beautiful Saturday night … and they didn’t even boo the starting quarterback.
WR Allen Robinson: During 1-on-1 drills against cornerbacks, he was 3-of-3 on catches, beating CBs Jalen Myrick, Doran Grant and Josh Johnson.
CB Tyler Patmon: Seeing time against the first-team offense because of injuries, he had two interceptions.
The defense: At least they didn’t drop the interception chances.
THUMBS DOWN
QB Blake Bortles: We had him charted with five interceptions – two in 7-on-7 and three in 11-on-11 drills. He had no interceptions in the first two days of practice. Said coach Doug Marrone: “I think anytime someone doesn’t perform to what you want to do, you’re concerned about it. … We’re going to look at those plays.” Asked if he needed to give Bortles any encouragement during practice, Marrone said “If I’ve got to do that now, then we’re going to be in trouble.”
RB T.J. Yeldon: He labored during a blitz pick-up drills, showing poor fundamentals (head down) when LB Myles Jack cleanly beat him.
ODDS AND ENDS
* Quarterback statistics (11-on-11 only): Blake Bortles 30 snaps, 13-of-22 passing, three INT; Chad Henne 15 snaps, 4-of-6 passing; and Brandon Allen 15 snaps, 8-of-9 passing.
* A rundown of Bortles’ interceptions: In 7-on-7 work, FS Tashaun Gipson and LB Josh McNary. In 11-on-11, it was CB Tyler Patmon twice and LB Telvin Smith once. LB Hayes Pullard intercepted Henne, but the play was blown dead right before Henne threw the pass.
* Dropped passes in 11-on-11: None.
* Pass break-ups in 11-on-11: In addition to the interceptions, Smith, LB Paul Posluszny and CB A.J. Bouye.
* Penalties in 11-on-11: None.
* After running a combined 183 snaps of 11-on-11 the first two practices, the Jaguars tapered back to 60 on Saturday night.
* LT Branden Albert worked with the first team so the Jaguars appear to be flip-flopping Albert and Cam Robinson on a day-to-day plan.
* Coach Doug Marrone is trying to cover every situation. The Jaguars ran two snaps deep in their territory of the catching a long snap and then running out of the end zone on purpose for safety. WR Arrelious Benn and FB Tommy Bohanon did the duties
* Bortles’ first five snaps of 11-on-11: Aborted play, Smith pass break-up, short pass to RB Chris Ivory, aborted play and Patmon interception. On the first play, Calais Campbell, working at DT, beat LG Tyler Shatley and DE Yannick Ngakoue dusted Albert. On the fourth play, DE Dante Fowler stunted inside and RB T.J. Yeldon was late to react.
* Bortles did go 4-of-5 passing during his second segment of 11-on-11, including a leaping catch by WR Marqise Lee about 30-40 yards downfield. On the third segment, Bortles completed three consecutive passes to Lee.
* We finally got to see some of WR Allen Robinson work against Bouye. That will be a good battle to watch. Bouye’s pass break-up came in coverage against Robinson on a quick slant route.
* The loudest cheers during the 11-on-11 came whenever RB Leonard Fournette broke a long run. Fournette looked solid in a pass protection drill against LB Myles Jack, twice winning.
* Fowler had a bounce to his step, tracking down Yeldon on a run play and he was able to get the edge against RT Jermey Parnell in a pass rush drill.
* Highlights of the pass rush/protection drill: Campbell had a clean win over Shatley and later tossed aside RG A.J. Cann; C Brandon Linder won both of his reps; and LG Patrick Omameh won against DT Sheldon Day and DT Michael Bennett.
* P Brad Nortman kicked to returners for the first time in camp. Back to catch the punts were Lee, Dede Westbrook, Shane Wynn and Rashad Greene.
