Kevin Stefanski says he'll meet with Odell Beckham Jr., discuss behavior at LSU title game

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said he'll meet with wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on Thursday and lay out his expectations for him moving forward.

CLEVELAND — Last Monday, Kevin Stefanski was officially announced as the Cleveland Browns' new head coach.

It didn't take long for his star wide receiver to join him in the headlines.

Shortly after the Browns made their hiring of Stefanski officially, Odell Beckham Jr. was spotted on the sideline of LSU's win over Clemson in the College Football Playoff Championship Game. Hours later, video surfaced of Beckham handing out cash to Tigers players during their postgame celebration -- a possible NCAA violation -- as well as a viral clip in which the 3-time Pro Bowl receiver appeared to slap a security officer's butt.

Although the charges filed against Beckham from the latter incident were later dropped, the stir was just another in what's seemingly been a trend of eyebrow-raising off-field behavior since the Browns acquired him last spring.

Speaking to reporters at the Greater Cleveland Sports Awards on Wednesday night, Stefanski declined to specifically discuss Beckham's behavior. But he did reveal that he plans to meet with his star receiver soon.

"I'm looking forward to sitting down with Odell face to face," Stefanski said. "I haven't had the chance to do that yet and I get the chance to do that tomorrow. And at that point, that's when I can start laying out my expectations for Odell and all of our players."

Asked specifically about Beckham handing out money to players on the field, Stefanski reiterated: "Again, we'll talk about that and lay out our expectations for our guys and how we want them to conduct themselves."

While Beckham's behavior could be called into question by some, the Browns did share some good news about the 2014 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year on Tuesday when the team announced he had undergone successful surgery on a core muscle. Beckham's injury -- believed to be a sports hernia -- had hampered him throughout his first season in Cleveland, in which he totaled 74 receptions for 1,035 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Browns amassed a disappointing 6-10 record.
