The Milbank Quarterly
Early Career Award in Population Health

Purpose:

The Milbank Quarterly Early Career Award in Population Health recognizes significant contributions to population health science by an individual who has received the Ph.D., M.D. or a comparable graduate degree no more than ten years before the year of the award.  Early career accomplishments may include scientific advances in population health research, significant achievements in the communication and dissemination of population health science, or innovative applications of population health research to address a societal need.  The Milbank Quarterly Early Career Award in Population Health emphasizes contributions that integrate insights from multiple disciplines contributing distinct bodies of knowledge to the challenge of understanding and addressing population health issues.

Eligibility:

For the 2024 award, eligible candidates will have received their degree no earlier than May of 2014 (barring circumstances such as parental leave, medical leave, or caregiving responsibilities). Recipients must be current members of IAPHS at the time of the award.  Self-nominations are welcome.

Materials:

Eligible nominations should include the following application materials (separate pdfs for #1-3; please combine publications/documents [#3] into a single pdf):

  1. A statement of the nominee’s contributions and relevance to the IAPHS Early Career Award.
  2. Nominee’s curriculum vitae
  3. No more than 3 published works or supporting documents (e.g., policy/white papers or other evidence of engagement with the public for those applicants emphasizing communication/application of population health science).
  4. Finalists will be asked to provide a letter of support

Award recognition:

Award recipient will receive a $3000 honorarium, plus up to $1500 to reimburse expenses associated with conference attendance to receive the award (e.g., travel/hotel). 

Multiple Nomination Policy

If multiple nominations are received for the same individuals, nominators will be contacted to coordinate a joint nomination. Nomination forms include the option for multiple signatures in support of the individual being nominated for the award.
